Thoughts on GORUCK's MACV Boots for Long Treks?

Has anyone here tried hiking with any of the GORUCK boots? Especially curious about their MACV-1 model. Wondering if they’re worth the hype or just overkill. I’d love to hear any thoughts before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance

They’re sturdy as heck but pretty stiff out of the box. Took me a few long hikes to break them in. If you’ve got a trip coming up, start wearing them around the house like…now. Unless you enjoy blisters the size of golf balls.

I tried them once and they were not for me, I felt like I was walking in combat boots, but not in a cool way. Ended up switching to Danner boots—way comfier, at least for me.

Okay, for me I think they’re pretty solid, especially for rocky trails, they held up well through the Grand Canyon champs. Just be ready for them to get dirty fast. They’re like a dirt magnet, no joke. But boots are meant to get beat up, right?

GORUCK’s marketing pulled me in, but after hiking in them for a weekend, I returned them. My feet were burning man. I wondered if it could be that I have weird arches, I don’t know.

Haha, same here. It’s like they’re magnets for every single grain of dirt on the planet. I swear my MACVs picked up their weight in dust last time I took them out. How do you even clean them?

I tried brushing them off, but at some point, I just accepted that these boots were meant to look “rugged.” You know, “I’ve been places, done things” vibes. :joy:

I hike mostly in colder climates where I want something a bit beefier, they were perfect, my feet stayed warm the whole way. If you’re doing warm-weather hiking, though… yeah, you might wanna reconsider.

I’m more of a summer hiker, so I might need to look at something lighter. Thanks for the insight.

If you are more of a summer hiker definitely go lighter. Have you tried the Salomon X Ultras? Great for hot weather, but not as much ankle support.

Haven’t tried them, but ankle support is key for me—rough terrain can get tricky. Do they hold up for long hikes?

Yep for real, but they’re more about being light and fast. Or maybe check out these, Oboz Bridgers, very solid balance without the bulk btw.

I’ve seen those, but are they that durable enough for rocky trails? I don’t want boots falling apart after a few hikes man. I hope this will work for decades.

A century, in fact. They’re totally durable, and they are waterproof, too, by the way. They should last you a while if you take care of them.

I’ll probably go for the Oboz then. Thanks dude. DM^
