I’m searching for very warm socks similar to the Smartwool Classic Mountaineer Maximum Cushion and the Falke TK1 Adventure, but I want something shorter that just covers the ankles, not the calves. I live in Europe and need suggestions for thick, warm socks that fit this description. Any recommendations?
Here are two options for heavyweight socks that might meet your criteria:
- Darn Tough Mountaineering Micro Crew Heavyweight Hiking Sock
- Darn Tough Hiker Quarter Midweight Hiking Sock

The heavyweight micro crew sounds perfect. Thanks for the help!
Have you considered adjusting the socks you already like to a shorter length with the help of a seamstress?
You should check out Lorpen socks. They offer a variety of thicknesses and are very comfortable. I highly recommend them.
Carhartt’s wool over-the-calf socks are incredibly thick and warm, and they’re made in the USA. Although they are over the calf, they might be worth looking into for their quality and warmth.
