I just received an Osprey Aether 65 as a Christmas gift. Historically, I’ve used CamelBak hydration systems with my daypacks. I’m curious about which hydration systems you all recommend for the Osprey Aether 65, particularly how many liters it can comfortably hold. I’m planning on short hikes of 1-3 days initially, with the goal to extend to week-long treks.
I recommend the latest generation of the Osprey Hydraulics bladder. It has some highly praised new features that might interest you.

I own both the old and new versions of the Hydraulics bladder. The new model has improved in terms of valve shutoff and ease of refilling. However, I still find the older model reliable.
Consider the Gregory 3D bladder. It’s easier to fill, empty, clean, and dry compared to Osprey’s models.
Personally, I’d avoid hydration bladders as they can be more trouble than they’re worth. If you do use one, storing it in the freezer can help keep it clean and ready.
I use a CamelBak during warmer weather and an Osprey in cooler weather. The CamelBak doesn’t retain much of a plastic taste, which I prefer. My Osprey bladder, however, tends to retain flavors more.

Try using denture cleaning tabs for your bladder; they remove the plastic taste effectively and leave a fresh, minty flavor.

Thanks for the tip! I usually use vinegar and water, along with freezing it. The CamelBak just seems to have faded more due to frequent use.
I prefer Source bladders. They’re much easier to clean than CamelBak.
I’d go with Source bladders; they are top-notch.
In my experience, Source probably makes the best hydration bladders available.
For the Aether 65, I wouldn’t recommend anything larger than a 1.5 or 2-liter bladder to avoid unnecessary weight. Just refill it as needed.
