Looking for lightweight, waterproof hiking shoes (not boots) for the W Trek in Patagonia. I have very finicky feet and am hoping to avoid heavy-feeling shoes.

Thanks, I tried Merrell and they fit well. I liked Oboz as they hugged my feet, but not the sneaker-like Oboz styles. I tried Altra trail runners but disliked the wide toe box. My priorities are lightness and no ankle rubbing. I usually wear Allbirds because they’re extremely light and comfortable. Nike sneakers feel too bulky for me, and I’ve heard mixed reviews about Columbia. I also don’t have many brands available locally to try on.

I’m not sure many hiking shoes will be as light as Allbirds since they’re typically built for durability. Out of curiosity, how long do your Allbirds last?

Haha, I have multiple pairs! My first pair lasted around eight months, and I was very hard on them. Walked 30k steps daily for a month in NYC, morning walks of 10k steps for months, up Koko Crater in Hawaii, through Zion, and Camelback in AZ. They’re my go-to for everything that’s not extended hiking.

Thanks! I didn’t expect them to last that long considering they look delicate. Best of luck finding hiking shoes that match what you need!
If Merrells fit you well, try some of their trail runners or light hiking shoes like the Fly Strike, which has a running-shoe feel and comes in a Gore-Tex version.

Thanks, I’m feeling overwhelmed by all the options. Just thought experienced hikers might have useful recommendations for lightweight waterproof shoes. It would be easier if I could try more options in person.
For narrow or average feet, try Asolo, Hoka, or Scarpa. They tend to fit well if you prefer a snug feel, but of course, it can vary.
