Rain Jacket Opinions

Hey y’all! Snagged a Montane Pac Plus XT for $320 the other day. Anyone got thoughts on it? Keep or send it back? Kinda on the fence. Any input helps.

Montane is cool, but $320? Whew. Does it keep you dry though? If so, it’s a keeper…

It’s super light, but mine wasn’t as breathable as I hoped. Do you sweat a lot?

$320 for a jacket?? Dude, I could buy two tents for that :joy:

If you’re staying dry and comfortable, keep it. If not, REI return policy is your friend.

I mean, it’s fancy, but do you hike that much in the rain? Maybe just use an umbrella lol

Yeah, the price was kinda steep. Haven’t tested it in a full storm yet, just light drizzle. So far, so good.

Once you’re out in a proper downpour, you’ll know. Mine held up in the Rockies, but hiking uphill, I was a sweaty mess.

Hiking uphill and sweat? That’s me even on a sunny day :joy: Did you find something better or stick with it?

Switched to a Patagonia Torrentshell. Breathability is better, but it’s heavier. Can’t win ‘em all, right?

You guys are spending way too much on jackets. I got a cheap one from Walmart and guess what? It still keeps the rain off :joy:

Until it doesn’t. My cheap one failed me halfway up Mount Rainier. Had to finish the hike soaked to my socks.

Haha, fair point. I’ve been lucky so far, but I don’t hike in the mountains. Florida rains are different beasts

Yeah, Florida rains last like 10 minutes. Not exactly the same as mountain downpours, buddy :joy:

True… Florida is like: rain for 10 minutes, sun for 5 hours, and then another mini storm. Weird weather

Y’all are killing me :joy: Sounds like I need to test this thing before I’m halfway up a mountain drenched.
