Hi everyone! I’ve read a lot on here about the importance of pack fit above all else. My question is this: if I find a pack that fits me well within a certain brand, is it reasonable to expect that other packs from the same brand will fit similarly?
For instance, I tried on a Gregory pack at REI, and it was perfect but very pricey. Would it be likely that other Gregory packs on sale or in an outlet would fit similarly, or is it really more specific to each model? I’ve also heard that brands like Osprey tend to have a narrower fit—does that hold true across all their packs?
Part of finding the right fit is knowing your torso length. REI will measure that for you. I tried on several packs at REI, found one I liked, and then searched for deals online to buy it cheaper. Not all packs are going to feel the same—even within the same brand.

Yep, they measured me at REI, and I tried the Gregory Baltoro 65, which felt great, but $330 is steep. They have the Stout 60 in the outlet for half that price. I’m curious if I can expect a similar fit or if the difference in models will affect it.
@Wes
It’s more than just fit—the suspension systems differ too. The Zulu might be a closer match. Also, if you’re open to used, try Gear Trade: Gear Trade Baltoro Packs
It’s hit or miss. I have a few Osprey packs myself.
My Stratos, with the AirSpeed suspension, is perfect for hiking. But my Syncro, which also has AirSpeed, feels awkward for hiking, though it’s great for biking. Then my Soelden has a different suspension entirely and feels like it’s built for someone with a shorter torso.
@Fay
They tried me in the Atmos 65, but it felt too tight, like a straightjacket. The REI staff mentioned Ospreys tend to suit narrower frames better. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
