You should create a map of your yard where he has to follow compass readings to find some treasure. Something simple, like “30 steps NW from the big tree.”
Add chores as steps in the treasure hunt! For example: “To find the secret code, take the garbage bag filled with the assorted expired trinkets and place it inside the mythical trashcan to the south. Then, look northwest and you shall see the epic broom.”
Win-win parenting!

This is a pro parenting move for sure.
Just a heads up, those bracelet compasses don’t always work perfectly because the metal piece next to the compass can interfere with the magnetic field. Be sure to test it first!
One less thing to worry about, lol.
What’s the purpose of paracord during hiking?

I’ve used it as a spare bootlace. I’ve also seen it used to support an arm sling, as an emergency dog lead, and even as a makeshift washing line for drying socks—after a river crossing debacle that, for the record, was totally not my fault.
@Dakota
Wait… THE river crossing debacle? I need to hear this story!

I bring extra cordage just in case something breaks, like a strap or shoelace, or if I need to set up a quick shelter on a day hike. A little extra gear is always better than regretting not having it when you need it.
