I’m looking for lightweight hiking boots for an upcoming trip to Utah next month. My current boots, Columbia Newton Ridge Plus, weigh about 2.1 lbs, and they’re too heavy for me. I have compartment syndrome from sports, and heavy boots can sometimes trigger it. I’d also like boots that won’t rub against my big toe weirdly.
For reference, I wear ASICS Gel-Saiun running shoes, which don’t trigger my compartment syndrome. I’m a women’s size 9.5, and I’m struggling to find boots that are lightweight, comfortable, and accurately listed in weight. Any recommendations or guidance would be much appreciated!
I understand how tough it can be to find the right footwear with specific needs like yours. Here’s some advice:
Brands to Consider: Check out lightweight options from La Sportiva, Lowa, Scarpa, and Asolo. These brands are known for durable and lightweight hiking boots.
Fit Tips: Try on boots at the end of the day when your feet are most swollen. Use the thickest hiking socks you plan to wear. Test them for any pressure points, slippage, or rubbing. A Brannock device measurement could also help you pinpoint your size and width.
Options to Try:
La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX: Lightweight and known for great toe protection.
Scarpa Rush 2 Mid GTX: Another excellent lightweight option.
Lowa Innox Pro GTX Mid: Great for those who need a flexible and light boot.
Men’s Sizes: Don’t hesitate to try men’s boots for a roomier toebox.
Testing: Order multiple sizes to compare. Walk around the house and make sure there’s no discomfort. REI often lists weights, so check their website for accurate specs.

I just measured! My foot is 10 inches long with my thick socks and 3.5 inches wide at the ball.
Thanks for the update! Based on those measurements, you’re likely a 9.5 women’s size with a medium width. I’d recommend starting with the La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX. They’re lightweight and offer a good fit for narrower feet. Order a 9.5 and a 9.5 wide to compare. Let me know how they work out!

Update: I tried the La Sportiva boots and loved them! Ended up with a men’s 41.5/8.5 for the extra room. Switched the insoles, and they’re perfect for my hikes. Thanks so much for the help!
