Is this good for super chilly weather?

Hey, I’m thinking about grabbing this StormGuard Pro Jacket for a winter trip to Montana. Anyone know if it’s warm enough for freezing temps? Or should I be layering like crazy?

Montana?. You’re gonna need more than a jacket buddy. StormGuard is decent, but you’ll definitely need some layers. A solid base layer + mid-layer combo should be fine. That jacket alone might leave you shivering in -10°F, just sayin’.

Man, let me tell you, I tried that StormGuard in Colorado last year—ended up freezing my butt off at night. It’s great for wind and rain, but not so much for hardcore cold.

Hey dude, I’d say go with something that has better insulation built in instead. I’ve been using the NorthFace Summit Down, and it’s great in subzero temps.

Is it bulky though? I don’t wanna feel like the Michelin man out there, lol.

NorthFace Summit down?, Haha, not too bad. It’s definitely got some puff, but it’s lighter than you’d think. Plus, I’d rather look a little puffy than be cold, y’know?

Have you checked out those synthetic insulation jackets like the Patagonia Micro Puff? They are super warm and lighter than down, especially if you’re dealing with wet snow. Down loses its mojo if it gets wet.

I do have the StormGuard, but yeah, layering is key. I usually rock a merino base layer and a fleece underneath. It’s all about that layering game, man.

Do you get hot though when you start moving? I don’t wanna be sweating all day

Depends… If I’m hiking, I just unzip when I start warming up. Breathability on the StormGuard is decent, but if you’re really working up a sweat, I’d say skip the fleece or switch to a lighter base.

Heated jackets are the future, no lie. But if that’s too fancy for you, I’d go old school with a puffy vest. Layer it over your StormGuard, and you’re golden.

LOL, heated jackets? You mean like those hand warmers but for your whole body? :joy: I gotta try that. But yeah, StormGuard’s good with layers, or if you’re lazy like me, just go for a warmer jacket to begin with.
