I just got a pair of Forsake boots, but the sides of the tongue are uncomfortably digging into my feet. Adjusting the laces hasn’t helped. I’ve had a similar issue with a pair of Vasque hiking shoes. Is this a normal part of breaking in boots, and will they adjust to my feet over time? I’m used to trail running shoes, which are much softer, so the stiffness of these boots is new to me. I’m hoping I can still make these work!
From my experience, if the footwear is uncomfortable now, it’s unlikely to improve much with time. Modern hiking footwear should be comfortable right out of the box. You might want to look into brands like Hoka that are known for lightweight, waterproof, and comfortable shoes from the start, although they might not be as durable.

That’s disappointing to hear, but thanks for the advice. I guess I’ll just use these boots for casual wear around town and stick to what I know works for actual hiking.

Definitely try shoes on in the store while wearing the socks you hike in, and consider going a size up to accommodate foot swelling in warm conditions. Make sure your heel doesn’t slide forward when you’re on an incline. An insole can also make a big difference. Any good store should help you with this fitting process.
