Hey guys, thinking about grabbing the Coleman camp stove for some weekend camping out in the Rockies. Anyone used it before? Curious if it’ll be reliable or just a waste of space in my pack.
I’ve used it for a couple trips to Joshua Tree, I can say It’s solid, but it’s not great if you’re trying to cook anything fancy. It mostly just does basic stuff like boiling water.
I found it a bit flimsy for me. I was up in the Cascades and the wind kept blowing it out. It’s lightweight though, so that’s a plus if you’re counting ounces.
If you’re going somewhere cold, it might not be the best choice. It struggles to stay lit when temps drops, so i’d just skip it.
Guys, mine worked just fine, I took it to the Smokies last fall and it held up fine. It’s only the fuel canisters that run out fast, so bring extra.
It’s alright for a quick overnight or weekend trip, but not anything longer, look for something with better fuel efficiency. I’d recommend a Jetboil. It wins in that category, hands down.
That’s what I was worried about, since it can get windy where I camp. Any better recommendations for dealing with wind?
If wind is your concern, I’d say go for something like the MSR PocketRocket. Way better wind resistance, and still super lightweight.
