Hey all, I feel like I saw something once that helps you transfer fuel between two canisters so you don’t end up carrying two half-full ones. Did I just dream that up, or is it a real thing? Could definitely use that for my camping trips.
It’s called a gas siphon pump. I have one that I use when I’m out for long trips. Super handy, especially when you’re trying to consolidate fuel. I got mine from REI, but I think you can find them at most outdoor stores.
Yep, no dream, you’re thinking of a fuel transfer pump. I’ve seen some really basic ones, even at Walmart in the automotive section.
I’d be using it mostly for propane when I’m out camping. Would it still work for that?
If you’re looking to move propane specifically, you might want to look at propane transfer hoses instead.
Thanks, I’ll check that out.
Honestly, if it’s just propane you’re moving, sometimes it’s easier to just bring a couple small tanks rather than mess with transferring. Less hassle in the long run, but I guess it depends on how much you need to bring and how often you’re using it.
I’ve got a fuel siphon pump, but I’ve never tried it with propane. If you go the siphon pump route, just make sure to double-check if it’s rated for gas vs liquid. Last thing you want is a busted pump.
