Choosing between Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX and Winter for Iceland in March

I’m heading to Iceland in early March and considering the Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX or the Winter model. I need advice on which would be best for the Icelandic winter conditions. There’s not much info on how the GORE-TEX version performs in winter, so I’m thinking about the Winter model. Any thoughts?

I had a poor experience with the durability of these boots in rainy conditions. I recommend considering a winter boot from a more reliable brand.

I agree. I’ve had several Salomon boots fail, particularly the waterproofing. Their fit is great, but I can’t recommend them based on my experiences.

Salomon’s waterproofing hasn’t been reliable for me. The X Ultra line has a low collar which may let snow in unless paired with gaiters. They also feel cold in winter conditions. The winter model might be better insulated. If you’ve tried them and they fit well, consider Asolo Fugitive GTX for temperatures down to about 20°F, or the Asolo TPS 520 GV Evo for colder conditions. Both are excellent alternatives.
