Best way to keep my leather hiking boots in top shape

Hey y’all, I just got a nice pair of hiking boots, and I’m wondering how to make sure they last. Anyone got tips on how to take care of 'em? Would love some easy advice for someone who hikes in the desert.

Leather boots just need a good clean every now and then. I usually just brush off the dirt after each hike and use a damp cloth.

I’d say use a leather conditioner. It keeps the leather from cracking, especially in dry areas like the desert. I learned that the hard way after my first pair dried out and cracked.

Honestly, I don’t do much. A quick wipe with a damp cloth after a muddy hike, and maybe a conditioner once a year.

Oh, I didn’t know leather could crack from dry weather. I’ll look into getting a conditioner. Any brands you’d recommend?

One tip: NEVER dry them near direct heat, like a fire or heater. I did that once, and they shrank. Just stuff them with newspaper and let them air dry slowly.

I put cedar shoe trees in mine when I’m not using them to keep them in shape and absorbs any leftover moisture. Might be overkill, but I’m picky about my gear staying fresh.

Y’all have given me a lot to think about. I’m definitely gonna start conditioning them, but might skip on the shoe trees, lol. Thanks for the help.
