Best Way to fix Burn Hole in Hiking Boots

I’m prepping for a 6-week solo hike through the Rockies (Colorado, maybe Montana, and Wyoming too). I accidentally got my boots too close to the campfire last trip and now there’s a burn hole on the side of my Merrell Moab 3s. Any tips on how to patch this up? Would rather not get a new pair if I don’t have to.

If it’s not too bad just use a duct tape. You can also try a gear repair tape like Tenacious Tape. It’s great for fixing rips in tents and jackets, so it might work on boots too.

Tenacious Tape seems cool but if you want something more permanent, maybe take them to a cobbler. They might be able to reinforce the area and make it last longer.

I wouldn’t risk just duct tape if you’re going to be somewhere wet. It can peel off, and your feet could get wet and miserable. Definitely go with a proper patch or repair glue.

Here’s a third vote for Tenacious Tape, but I’d add a dab of Shoe Goo over it for extra durability.

You can also try a silicone sealant if it’s a small hole. It’s cheap, flexible, and waterproof, but make sure you let it dry for a good while before hitting the trail again.

Thanks, everyone. I think I’ll start with the Tenacious Tape and maybe look into a cobbler for a more permanent fix if it gets worse. Appreciate all the tips.
