Best Undies for Long Hikes

Hey folks, so I usually just do short hikes, but yesterday I hit about 10 miles, and man, my athletic underwear (the same ones I use for the gym) were NOT cutting it. By the end, I had some gnarly chafing going on. :confounded: Any tips on what underwear to wear for long hikes, or maybe some hacks to avoid this happening again? A guy here. Thanks.

Bro, I feel your pain (literally). I switched to merino wool boxers after getting wrecked by chafing on a 12-mile hike. They’re breathable and moisture-wicking, so no sweat buildup. Pricey, but trust me, worth every cent. Look up brands like Smartwool or Icebreaker.

Honestly, I’d go for something with a longer inseam like the Under Armour boxer briefs – they’ve got a 9-inch option that works wonders for me. That extra coverage helps with preventing your thighs from rubbing together.

Go for synthetic fabrics like polyester blends. They dry faster and don’t stink as much after a long sweaty day.

Oof, chafing is the worst. Try using Body Glide or some other anti-chafe balm before you start your hike. It’s not just about the underwear—prevention is key. Slap some of that on your thighs, and it’ll help a ton.

I wear running tights underneath my regular hiking shorts. Sounds weird, but it works. The tights prevent chafing, and then the shorts give you that extra layer for comfort.
