Best jacket for hiking when it's pouring?

Hey everyone, I’m heading to Oregon for some rainy hikes. What’s your go-to rain jacket that holds up when it’s really coming down?

You can’t go wrong with the Patagonia Torrentshell. It’s saved me in downpours more times than I can count.

Dude, just grab a cheap poncho from Walmart and call it a day. Who needs fancy tech when you can rock a plastic bag vibe?

Arc’teryx Beta are pricey but that thing is like wearing a force field. Keeps me bone dry, and it’s pretty breathable too.

North Face Venture is not the fanciest, but great. I’ve actually used it in Washington’s rain forests without getting soaked. No complaints. :+1:

I normally just embrace the rain and pretend I’m one with nature. Highly recommend this method for the ‘authentic’ experience :joy:

Columbia OutDry is also a solid pick. It’s super waterproof, but also not super breathable. So yeah, dry on the outside, but maybe a bit steamy on the inside.

The steaminess issue is exactly why I switched to the Torrentshell. Less sauna vibes, more actual hiking comfort.

Yeah, fair point. Maybe I’m just secretly into suffering. I’ll check out the Torrentshell though. Need all the help I can get to not feel like a walking greenhouse.

Have you tried the Beta though? Way better if you’re serious about staying dry. Just hurts the wallet a bit

Yeah, Arc’teryx is killer, but I’ve got bills to pay, so North Face it is for now :joy:. Maybe one day I’ll join the ‘fancy jacket’ club.

You all talking about gear… meanwhile, I’m here channeling my inner wilderness spirit, hoping the rain will ‘cleanse’ me. Feels budget-friendly too, lol.
