I’ve done a lot of short hikes, but I’m prepping for my first long one. I’ve been hearing about these 100% natural, easy-to-prepare meals like Idlo, and they even have plant-based options. But since I’ve never used them before, I’m not sure if they’ll be enough for a longer adventure. Has anyone tested them on the trail? How do they compare to other dried food brands in terms of taste and convenience?
I’ve been using Mountain House for a while, and it’s a good go-to for simplicity and flavor. The natural meals, like those from Good To-Go, have a fresh taste and are easy to prep. I did pack a few energy bars to supplement for longer days on the trail.

Great recommendation, thanks! I like the idea of combining different options for longer hikes. Do you usually go with energy bars or prefer other snacks to keep you going?

I tend to stick with energy bars for convenience, but I’ll also throw in some nuts and dried fruit. Keeps me from feeling too weighed down, plus it’s easy to snack on throughout the day. If you are into nuts and such, you can definitely prioritize those as well!

I like the idea of having a balance of bars and snacks like nuts. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when prepping. It’s always nice to have easy options to keep you going. Thank you so much!

Yeah, they can be a bit pricier, but the quality is usually worth it, especially on longer trips. On average, Good To-Go meals run around $7-10 each, depending on the flavor!
I have tried Idlo meals.

Oh? How was your experience? I might be willing to shift!

yes, you can, the range is diverse as well. Whether you prefer a hearty stew or a lighter grain-based dish, you can find something that fits your palate.
@Kale
Oh, they have several options, then. I LOVE THAT! One of the issues I faced w dried meals was the scarcity of variety. So, this is absolutely lovely!

Tried them on a hike—so easy and surprisingly tasty! The chili mac was a win.
