Hey all! I’ve got an outdoor job coming up this winter and need waterproof trousers. UK-based (EU is cool too). 5’2” here, so shorter lengths appreciated. I need pockets for tools (cargo pants, anyone?) High waist preferred, belt loops a must. Any good recs? Thanks…
Craghoppers Kiwi Pro Stretch, good pockets for tools, high-waisted, and solid waterproofing.
Have you looked into Mountain Warehouse’s options? Their trousers have belt loops, decent waterproofing, and a nice waist fit.
I know it’s not cargo style, but have you tried Berghaus? Very good waterproofing, but the pockets might not cut it. They do have great shorter lengths, though, if that’s a dealbreaker.
Craghoppers sound good; do they hold up in heavy rain? @Ricardo
I’d vote for Fjällräven. They last forever and have HUGE pockets. Bit pricey, though. Also, belt loops strong enough for your heaviest gear. Worth it if you’re tough on clothes.
Engelbert Strauss can work if you size down. I’m 5’2" too, and they fit okay after tailoring. They’re not super fashionable, but hey, you’ll be dry, right?
@MirageQuill I looked at Engelbert Strauss, but I was worried about the waist. Dry and slightly awkward-looking might be the move after all!..
Yeah, Fjällräven’s amazing, but my bank account cries every time I even think about it. Worth it for durability, but I’m team ‘affordable waterproofs.’
True, Fjällräven isn’t cheap. But my pants have lasted like…years of rough hikes, rainy days, and washing abuse. Worth the investment if you don’t mind skipping a few meals.
Yeah, but who needs food when you’ve got rock-solid waterproofs, right? I’ve had cheaper ones fall apart halfway through a rainy workday. No thank you.
Oof, I’ve been there. Ever had your waterproofs leak? Spent a hike soaked and angry. Honestly, it’s why I keep going back to Berghaus – they never let me down.
Yep! Craghoppers have handled downpours for me with no problem. I mean, if they keep out UK rain, they’re solid, right? The pockets are a dream too.
If they can handle UK rain, I’m game. I’ll give them a shot. Thanks for the tip.
