Hey everyone, looking for the best quality windproof jacket out there. Any recommendations? Need something durable and light for windy hikes.
Patagonia Houdini—hands down, light as a feather and packs small. Plus, it’s surprisingly tough for how thin it is. Mine’s been through some gnarly weather and still going strong.
Arc’teryx Squamish Hoody. Pricey, but you get what you pay for, blocks wind and doesn’t feel like a sauna when you’re moving.
I like the Rab Vital Windshell, lightweight, breathable, and does the job on windy summits. Not pricey though, perfect balance of performance and price.
OMG Montbell Tachyon Anorak is crazy light—seriously, it’s like wearing air—but it holds up against the wind. Packs down to nothing as well, so great for tossing in your pack for emergency windy days.
Hey @Ricardo, does Houdini handle a bit of rain, too, or just wind? I’m trying to avoid packing too many layers.
Houdini’s great for wind but don’t count on it in the rain. For wind and rain, maybe check out the Outdoor Research Helium II—it’s more waterproof but still light enough for windy days.
Black Diamond Alpine Start is not waterproof, but awesome in windy conditions. It’s also breathable and windproof. Plus, it’s stretchy, so it’s comfy when scrambling.
Btw I wouldn’t trust the Houdini in serious rain either. Maybe pack a rain shell if you’re expecting wet weather.
