When do I have to replace soles on hiking boots?

Hey y’all,
When do you usually swap out the soles of your hiking boots? Can’t seem to find any good pics showing how worn the tread should be before replacing. Got pics? Thanks.

If the tread’s smoother than a baby’s butt, it’s time to swap 'em out

If you’re slipping on dry rocks, time for new soles, no pics needed. Your feet know.

I wait until there’s literally no grip left. Or when my feet start hating me on hikes, lol.

I swap when the sole peels or the tread’s bald in spots.

Yeah, mine are starting to slip a little on rocks. Maybe it’s time. Any brands you guys like for replacement soles?

I use Vibram soles for replacement. They’re like super glue for your feet :joy:

Vibram, for sure. Just watch out for knock-offs. Bought some once, they lasted 2 hikes. :man_facepalming:

I replace mine after a good 500 miles. But if you’re slipping, don’t wait that long. My friend did, ended up on his butt.

I change 'em before they get too bad—don’t want to ruin a good hike with bad boots.

500 miles?! I don’t think mine have even hit 200, but they’re already losing grip on steep descents. Anyone else get less mileage?

Less than 200? That’s rough. Maybe the trails you’re hitting are eating up the soles. Rocky terrain?

Yeah, lots of jagged rocks where I hike. Maybe that’s it. Gonna look into those Vibram soles, thanks.

Jagged rocks always tear through my soles often. Vibram will actually help. But man, expensive.

Expensive, but worth it. Cheap soles wear out faster, and you end up paying double. Learned that the hard way.
