I love winter hiking, and I have many favorite pieces of gear for it…

Lots of Smartwool stuff… Outdoor Research Ferrosi hoodie… Beyond L5 Testa pants… Asolo TPS 520 GV Evo boots… Medium ALICE pack to carry everything…

Half of what I love about winter is all the things I get to utilize. The other half is seeing all the snow and feeling it crunch under my feet.

My little luminAID blow-up, solar lamp. So good.

Shoes/boots.

I know It’s super obvious, but my headlamp. Getting on the trail in the dark so I could be at my destination for sunrise was a game changer for me. Likewise, being able to watch sunset and safely make it back.

Do you have a favorite headlamp?

Small multitool and lightweight insulated shell. Both regular kit for 20+ years…used almost every time out.

Wind jacket with chest pocket. Those things are a miracle.

Traction devices (microspikes, Kahtoola) were clutch for that snow hike last winter.

Surprisingly… a pair of flip flops for the evenings. My feet just needed a break.
