We’re not alone. I thought because I’m not always carrying an internal battery rechargeable headlamp, brick, and like the bigger picture paper contour maps not on a mobile computer I was Last of the Mohicans.
AllTrails. Used it for years. Never led me wrong.

Honestly I don’t get the ‘AllTrails sucks’ meme. For most people in most situations it’s all you really need.

I use AllTrails too even for long distance hikes, only time it’s ever let me down was a walk in Wales and the route was genuinely through a field with no gates. But apart from that it’s fine as long as you use common sense.
AllTrails for shorter hikes, farout + paper maps for backpacking/long trails
AllTrails and SummitPost plus WorkOutDoors
AllTrails has yet to let me down. I always carry a paper map and a compass as a backup but have never needed it.
Komoot. Love the spoken directions.

I like Avenza but picking out one of the seventeen maps for a specific area is kind of tough.

Picking out a map can be a pain but the maps themselves are way more accurate and detailed on Avenza.
CalTopo and Gaia. Love CalTopo, lots of features.
Recently started using footpath route planner and it’s been good so far. Cheaper than a lot of alternatives.
I use Topo gps. I like it. It has a bit confusing interface until you know what you do.

This. TopoGPS is an awesome app to design your own routes.
AllTrails but always a paper map as a backup
