Tarp Trouble: How Do I Knot and Attach Tarp to Pole?

I’m having a bit of trouble with my tarp setup. I’ve been using it for a few years now, but I’ve never quite been able to get the knots right. I always end up with saggy corners or the tarp slipping off the pole. Does anyone have any tips for knotting and attaching a tarp to a pole like the one below? I’m using a 10’x12’ tarp with two 10’ poles.

I’ve always used the Prusik knot to attach my tarp to the poles. It’s super easy to adjust and holds really well. Just make sure you use the right cord for the job.

I Prefer the Lineman’s Hitch. I’m a big fan of the Lineman’s Hitch. It’s a bit more complicated to tie, but it’s incredibly secure and allows for easy adjustments.

Remember to use guy lines to secure the corners of your tarp. This will help prevent sagging and keep the tarp taut.

There’s also actually a knot specifically designed for tarps called the Tarp Knot. It’s a bit tricky to learn, but it’s a great option for a secure and adjustable attachment.

I’ve tried both the Prusik knot and the Tarp Knot, and I honestly like them both. It really depends on your personal preference

Don’t Overthink It. Sometimes, the simplest solution is the best. Just use this simple clove hitch to attach the tarp to the poles.

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to knotting and attaching tarps. The best way to find what works for you is to experiment with different knots and techniques.
