Should I use an app or a tracker for tracking my trails?

Hey everyone, I’m looking to track my hiking adventures more closely. Do you think it’s better to go for a dedicated hiking app, invest in a new fitness tracker, or use both? I’m curious about what you guys prefer and why. Thanks.

I’d recommend a fitness tracker if you want something that’s always on your wrist and tracks your stats automatically. Apps are cool too, but they can be a bit of a hassle to keep updated.

An app is actually great for detailed route planning and tracking. If you’re into analytics and don’t mind carrying your phone, go for the app. It’s usually free or low-cost too btw…

I vote for both, you can use the app for detailed records and a fitness tracker for real-time stats and convenience. It’s like having the best of both worlds.

I personally would go the fitness tracker route. It’s handy, doesn’t drain your phone’s battery, and gives you instant feedback.

I think apps are usually great if you want detailed analytics and mapping. But I would prefer a fitness tracker because it’s better for everyday use and simplicity.

Thanks y’all for the input, I’m leaning towards trying out both to see which one fits my style better. Any recommendations for specific apps or trackers you’ve had good experiences with?

For apps, check out AllTrails or Gaia GPS. For trackers, Fitbit or Garmin.

Garmin is great btw I agree, and for apps, you might also try Komoot. It’s got some nice features for route planning.
