Running with Osprey Daylite Waist? Thoughts?

Hey y’all, I’ve heard people rave about the Osprey Daylite Waist for hikes and short treks. I’m thinking of snagging one for running since I’d like to stash a couple of water bottles without juggling them, but before I grab it, I’m curious—anyone tried running with it? Does it bounce around too much? I get that a bit of bounce is normal, but I’m really wondering if it becomes a distraction or if it shifts too much while you’re jogging. Appreciate any input…

It’s not terrible in terms of bounce, but honestly, I noticed it when I picked up speed or went downhill. If you keep it snug, it mostly stays put, but if you’re sprinting or doing longer distances, you might want to look for something made more specifically for running.

I’ve used it for a mix of hiking and jogging, and I’d say it’s better for slower, steady runs than anything too fast-paced. I didn’t have major bounce issues, but it does shift a bit, especially when the water bottles are full. If you’re going to use it mostly for running, maybe look at hydration vests instead? They’re usually more stable.

Do you think a vest would be overkill for shorter runs, though? I’m only doing like 5-6 miles at a time.

Nah, not overkill at all, IMO. Some vests are super lightweight and made for shorter distances. They don’t feel bulky, plus they distribute the weight better than a waist pack. Check out the Salomon Adv Skin 5 or something similar—it’s designed more with running in mind

I’ve been running with the Daylite for a few months now and for me, it’s fine as long as I tighten it up really well. Sometimes I over-tighten and it feels like a corset, but hey, it stays in place. I think for casual runs it works, but if you’re super serious about speed and distance, I’d agree with @TrailBlazerTina —vests are probably better.

I also started with the Daylite for my runs, but the bouncing annoyed the heck out of me, especially when it was half-full. I’d also just look into the vests.

Y’all are fancy with your vests, I’ve been using a cheapo fanny pack with elastic straps for runs. Sure, it bounces a bit, but for $15, I can’t complain.

Osprey Daylite Waist is my go-to for hikes, but for running? Not my first choice. I tried it once, and the bottles clunked around too much for my liking. If you’re gonna run more than hike, I’d suggest ditching the waist packs altogether and grabbing a vest or even one of those handheld water bottles with a strap.

Thanks for all the feedback, y’all!.. Might have to rethink my choice. I’ll look into the vests you all mentioned. Also, handheld water bottles—never thought of that. Doesn’t it feel annoying to run holding something, though?

I used to run with a handheld bottle sometimes, and it was honestly not that bad at all. At first, I thought it’d be awkward, but with the right strap, you barely notice it. Just don’t fill it to the brim if you don’t wanna feel the weight.
