This is my gear for a 3-day-trip in the Austrian Alps. Any opinions & tipps? I go together with my brother, that’s why I am bringing some “luxury items” like a deck of cards
I will buy another, bigger water bottle (1 L), the plastic one is just for the picture. Usually, I get along with 1,5l really good, water is no problem in the area.
1 extra sock and underwear is enough, gonna be cold as fuck and a lot of snow make sure your ready for that

Not in the area we are going actually. Mountains are max 2000m (Gesäuse) and we don’t hike on the peaks. We will reach max. 1800m, but sleep in the valleys.
@Ember
Brother it’s risky now in the alps without proper gear, like normal hike above 1300m is not possible without snowshoes, I just got rescued last weekend from 2000m, there was over 1m snow everywhere the descend was to risky pls take care
@Fern
Where have you been in the Alp, I mean it’s a pretty big area ^^ So what I saw forecast and it’s not really cold in the area.
There are multiple huts on the route, so it would be always possible to seek shelter if weather really turns unexpectedly. Right now, no temperatures below 5 are expected and that’s fine in this sleeping bag, I used it way below 0 in Finland (was pretty cold though).
@Ember
East from Königssee, maybe the cold ist not so a problem, huts are probably closed, just make sure your in some alpine club for insurance and expect snow that’s all
@Ember
We might have the same bag. -5 deg? I slept in it during -5 to -10… was cold without better proper insulation

I have 2x hiking socks and I am definitely bringing my “heavy” wool socks, it’s the best feeling to get in them for sleeping and no cold feets.
what camera are u using and what lens. Thanks.

Fuji XT1 with the 18-55mm kit lens. Actually, not sure if I will bring this camera though… I have a DJI Pocket 2 if I want to shoot some videos and pictures are kind of okay with my phone. (I love the Camera, but with lens it is 800g…)
Dont bring those anal beads at the bottom right side of your bed, it’s just gonna way your pack down, just have it in you already.

Yes the cards are important, I always have them with me!
We will eat mainly cold, simple stuff. Probably it’s also possible to have a warm meal in some huts, but I have to figure this out.
For cooking I just bring an Esbit cooker from german military. I like this one, it’s good enough to boil some water in my bottle for some coffee or tea.
@Ember
In Winter I like picking up some knorr soup packets, and throw in some smaller pasta. Worst case pack a few boillon cubes. Easy, light and warming meals. Feels like the weather is turning in EU and will be colder in the Alps.
@Cary
It is hopefully not too cold, currently it says around 15 max, 5 min °C. However, I actually always have two bouillons in my FAK (I bit random, I know, but I store some general “survival” stuff there, e.g. water purification etc.)
Flashlight? Batteries? Power Bank?

Headlight is in this little grey bag. I bring a Powerbank (10 000), good call! I forgot to put it on the picture, as well as some other essentials that I have in my EDC bag anyway
Waaaay too much stuff for a few days.
