Never heard of Eddie’s Outdoor Gear. Just found a rain jacket with a removable fleece liner for $90 in Chicago. Is this legit or am I about to get soaked (pun intended)? Anyone got experience with their stuff?
I haven’t tried Eddie’s, but $90 for a jacket with a liner seems decent. Worst case, if it leaks, at least you’re only out $90 and not $300 like with some brands. Maybe check the zippers—they’re usually the weak spot.
Yeah, $90 sounds kinda too good? I’d double-check if it’s actually waterproof or just water-resistant. There’s a difference. I got burned by that once with a ‘waterproof’ jacket that couldn’t handle a drizzle. Ended up looking like a wet dog.
Btw good call on the water-resistant vs waterproof, now how can I actually tell if it’s the real deal while I’m in-store?
Good, just check the tags… look for stuff like ‘Gore-Tex’ or ‘sealed seams.’ That usually means it’s properly waterproof. If it just says ‘water-resistant,’ you might be in trouble when it starts pouring.
I’ve never heard of that brand either, but for $90, I’d say it’s worth a shot, especially if it’s comfortable and fits well. Maybe test it at home—shower test anyone?
Yooh, honestly for that price I’d probably pass. In my experience, off-brands just don’t last long, especially if you’re actually out hiking in tough conditions. I’d save up for something tried and tested, like North Face or Patagonia.
But I don’t hike all that much—maybe once or twice a year. Would this still be good for, like, light rain or windy days?
Oh, if you’re not hardcore hiking, then you’re probably fine. For occasional use or just city life, I think that jacket will do the job. Just layer up if it gets too cold or wet
Sometimes these lesser-known brands might surprise you. I got a no-name fleece for $30 five years ago, and it’s still going strong. Maybe you’ll get lucky
Btw you never know, as long as it fits and keeps you warm, who cares what the label says?
True… Alright, I’ll probably grab it and see how it holds up. If it falls apart, I guess I’ll just have to upgrade next time. Thanks, everyone.
