Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for a lightweight tent for solo hiking trips. I’m not super picky, just need something easy to pack, durable, and preferably not too expensive. What do you guys recommend?
I’ve been using the Big Agnes Fly Creek which is super light, but a bit tight on space. You’ll feel like you’re in a cocoon, lol. Great for weight-saving though.
Honestly, I’m all about the MSR Hubba NX. It’s a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for—sturdy and packs down well.
This one:
If you’re not too picky, you could check out the REI Co-op Quarter Dome. It’s a solid option, and REI has great return policies if you’re ever unhappy. I’m not saying I abuse that… but, well, you know.
Haha, I don’t mind tight spaces, but I also don’t wanna feel like I’m sleeping in a burrito. How’s the setup on the Fly Creek? Quick, or do you feel like you’re wrestling it every time?
It’s not bad. A little tricky in the wind, but once you’ve done it a couple of times, it’s a breeze. Just don’t let it blow away when you’re staking it down—learned that the hard way.
Forget about the tent, I’ve been rocking a hammock setup, no more worrying about uneven ground or rocks under my back. Just bring a good tarp in case of rain. If you haven’t tried hammock camping, you’re missing out big time.
Y’all can have your fancy ultralights. I’m still lugging around my old Kelty from the ‘90s. It’s built like a tank, weighs as much as one too. Honestly though, these new ultralights sound tempting. Maybe it’s time to retire the ol’ beast.
