Light but warm sleep gear for Peak District

Hey all, my son’s doing a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Peak District end of October. He’s a light traveler but it’ll be colder. Recommendations for affordable sleeping bags/mats that’ll keep him warm?

A 3-season bag should do it. I’d recommend the Mountain Warehouse 3-season bag—affordable and decently warm. Add a foam mat to keep it light but insulated.

Definitely get him a mat The ground sucks the heat right out. Maybe a self-inflating mat? I use one from Therm-a-Rest—totally great for cold nights.

Can’t believe he skips the mat. :joy: but for sleeping bags, gotta check out the decathlon’s forclaz bags, they are cheap but surprisingly solid for UK autumn. You might want a liner too for extra warmth btw.

You also got to look at Vango bags—they’re solid for the price.

Yeah, he thinks he’s invincible without a mat. But after his last cold weekend, I’m definitely getting him one. Liner’s a good shout too—thanks.

The OEX Fathom EV 300 is light and warm enough for late October. Add a cheap foam mat if he’s resistant to the heavier stuff :joy:

I don’t know how he’s sleeping without a mat, seriously. :joy: Anyway I’m going with vango trek mats, very affordable and reliable.

Right? Tbh even in summer, I can’t go without a mat. Mat + good bag combo is essential, especially in the Peak District.

He’s all about going ultralight, but I think he’s finally realized the ground doesn’t care about his “minimalist” style. definitely looking at mats now.

If in any case you consider the Mountain Warehouse 3-season bag. Add foam mat.
