I’ve been finding some good deals on poshmark, got a North Face jacket for $40 and some nice REI hiking pants for $25. Both in great condition!
If you know what you’re looking for and how to assess condition, I recommend buying used.
I always laugh when people spend like $100 for hiking pants. People were hiking in jeans 30 years ago. You don’t need hiking pants.

A lot of people have also gotten themselves into serious trouble hiking in jeans. You don’t need the most expensive gear. You should get gear suitable for the conditions you plan to be out in.
Are you gonna bury your money with you when you’re dead? Quality goods demand a high price because they are difficult to produce.
