Hello! I’m gearing up for travel across New Zealand and expect to do a lot of walking and hiking. I need versatile hiking shoes or boots suitable for all seasons, lightweight enough for travel, with good grip, and stylish enough for daily wear. What are your top picks for such footwear
Want us to pay for them too
It’s tough to recommend specific shoes as everyone’s feet and needs are different. I suggest visiting a store to try various options. For waterproof versus non-waterproof debate, I prefer non-waterproof because they dry quicker even though your feet will get wet either way.
Check out the detailed post on this forum for all the answers you might need regarding hiking gear. It would be helpful to have it pinned at the top of this forum to help others with similar questions.

Thanks for putting together such a comprehensive guide! It really helps cut down on repetitive questions.

Absolutely! It’s nice to help, but hopefully, this makes it easier for everyone to find what they need without having to ask again and again.
Try Asolo boots; they’re excellent for tough trails like the El Camino and the Inca Trail. They’re durable, comfortable, and they even offer resoling services.
Choosing style over function might end up disappointing you. If you’re worried about looks over performance, you might need to adjust your priorities. My personal favorite is Scarpa—they’re top-notch.

Scarpa makes excellent boots, but it’s all about the fit. Other brands like Asolo and Lowa also offer high-quality options that might suit different foot shapes better.
@Tatum
Fair point, best for me then!
Without knowing more about your preferences for materials or fit, I’d recommend the Danner 2650 for a good all-around choice.
