Hiking with a firearm… Is it normal

Does anyone hike with a gun? I used to live in remote areas where encountering cougars was quite common, and depending on the trail, even grizzly bears could be a problem. I always felt safer carrying a firearm. I’ve recently moved to a new area and noticed that almost no one carries a rifle while hiking here, making me feel somewhat out of place. However, carrying a firearm makes me feel secure. Can anyone recommend a backpack that can conceal a rifle but allows quick access if needed? I usually carry it on my shoulder but want to avoid making other hikers uneasy.

I’ve never hiked with a rifle but have carried a pistol on several hikes. In most places I visit, it’s not really necessary; it’s just extra weight.

That’s a fair point. Unfortunately, it’s illegal to carry a pistol outside of a shooting range in Canada, or else I would consider it an option for hiking.
