Hey y’all, I’ve started hiking more, mostly in wooded areas, and I want to make a basic emergency kit. I’m talking essentials only. What do you always carry? And what’s just taking up space? Right now, I’m hitting shorter trails, but you know, better safe than sorry, right? Thoughts? Appreciate the help.

Duct tape. It’s literally a lifesaver in any situation. Fixes everything.

First aid kit, fire starter, extra socks. Wet feet ruin hikes faster than anything.

Water purification tabs. I underestimated these once. Not fun to learn the hard way…

Multitool. Never thought I’d need one until I had to cut some tangled rope. Now it’s a must-have.

Poncho and hand warmers. Trust me, a little rain or cold breeze, and you’ll be glad you packed 'em.

Duct tape? Seriously? I mean, I’ve heard it fixes like everything, but what exactly are you using it for out there? Lol, I’m imagining fixing a tent with tape or something.

Oh, the tent, your shoes, even patch up a jacket. It’s the ultimate MacGyver tool.

Don’t forget a whistle. If you get off-trail, it’s easier for people to find you. I keep one on my pack all the time.

Extra socks are also lifesavers. One time I didn’t pack any, had to hike back with soggy feet… nightmare😖

Duct tape and wet socks? That’s the weirdest emergency combo I’ve heard, but I see the logic. You could, like, duct tape your socks to stay dry, right?
