Hiking Boot Recommendations for California Trails

I’ll be in California for the next few years and am looking forward to hiking in the trails and national parks. I prefer boots over trail runners for the added stability, especially since I previously injured my ankle. The climate appears to be warm and dry, so I’m in search of non-waterproof boots. I’ve mostly found non-waterproof low-top shoes and waterproof boots, but neither are ideal. My budget is around $200. I’ve heard good things about Merrell, Keen, and Oboz. Does anyone have experience with these brands or other recommendations?

I’d normally recommend trail runners, but since you need something higher for support, the Oboz Bridgers are excellent. They’re lightweight and well-crafted.

Do they have a non-waterproof version? I’m concerned about the boots being too warm for California’s climate.

@Gale
For non-waterproof options, consider the Moab 3 from Merrell. They’re like the Honda Civic of hiking boots—reliable and well-regarded.
