Do hiking packs shrink when I’m not looking?

I grabbed a 65-liter pack thinking it would hold everything. Somehow, after tossing in two jackets and a hoodie, it’s maxed out. What gives? Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Maybe you’re packing too bulky stuff. Jackets and hoodies can take up space fast. Have you tried rolling them up tighter or using compression bags?

65 liters should be more than enough. Check how you’re organizing things. I always make sure the heaviest stuff goes at the bottom and work upwards with the smaller items to avoid wasted space.

These packs are like black holes; everything disappears inside. My 70L is constantly “full” but I’m always finding extra room if I repack. Try sitting on the bag while zipping it :joy: :joy: :joy:

I thought I rolled them pretty well, but yeah, maybe compression bags could help.

Some brands label them 65L, but the design makes them feel smaller—especially if there are too many compartments eating up the space.

Have you considered ditching the hoodie and just layering lighter stuff like thin thermal and windbreaker combo?

Solid idea because them hoodies are super bulky and don’t even offer much versatility.
