Consistent Ripping in Solomon Shoes at the Same Spot

Has anyone else noticed their Solomon shoes ripping in the same specific spot on both shoes? It’s quite odd and I’m trying to figure out why this is happening.

It sounds like this issue might be related to how you walk, possibly catching one foot on the other due to internal rotation of the hip. A short-term solution could be to use gaiters for protection, but long-term you might want to consider seeing a physical therapist to analyze and possibly correct your walking pattern. Here’s a video that might help: Walking Analysis Video.

This wear pattern is likely due to your gait. I’ve noticed similar wear on all my trail runners, suggesting it’s more about how we move than the shoes themselves.

The issue might be medial heel whip, where your opposite foot strikes your ankle when walking. This often points to hip weakness. It’s a common issue and not necessarily a fault with the shoe’s design.

My Solomon boots started falling apart after just three months of use.

It seems to be a recurring issue as my wife has experienced the same with three different pairs of Salomon shoes.

It’s interesting to hear it might be a common weak spot in their design. I wonder if other brands have similar issues.

@Miller
It’s likely not the design but the way you’re walking. Adjusting your gait could help, as I’ve managed to fix this issue myself.

I’ve had the same wear spot with Merrell shoes but not with other brands like Teva or On Clouds.

The issue seems to be a common wear pattern due to how you walk, specifically how one shoe might rub against the other. Changing shoes might not necessarily solve the problem without addressing the gait issue.

This type of wear is typical for me as well, stemming from how I walk and the tendency to rub one foot against the other.

It sounds like your walking style might be causing this.

I have the same issue with all my hiking shoes. I’ve found that applying shoe goo early on can help prevent further damage.
