Best hiking backpack for camera gear, hydration, and pole straps?

Hey folks, any good suggestions for a backpack that fits trekking poles, has hydration compatibility, and offers protection for camera gear?

Definitely check out the Osprey Talon series, it has all that, space for a hydration bladder, trekking pole loops, and the camera stays snug in a side pocket. Super comfy too. You can find it at https://www.osprey.com/featured/shop-by-collections/talon-tempest

if you’re carrying a lot of camera gear, I’d actually recommend the Lowepro PhotoSport. It’s made specifically for photographers who hike, so the camera protection is on point.

If you’re into ultralight, i’d recommend checking out the Hyperlite Mountain Gear packs. They’re not specifically designed for cameras, but I’ve used a small padded insert for my camera gear, and it works great. Plus, it’s crazy lightweight.

It looks convenient, how’s the durability on that Lowepro PhotoSport? My last bag got wrecked after a few trips.

Honestly, it’s held up well for me, but I’m always pretty easy on my gear.

Bro, wrapping your camera in a jacket is bold.:joy: But hey, it works. I’m with @DawnStrider on the Osprey Talon, though. I don’t carry a big camera, so it’s perfect for my setup with a GoPro and hydration bladder. Love the airflow on the back, keeps me from getting all sweaty.

Another vote for Lowepro PhotoSport here if you’ve got bulky gear. The side camera access is awesome for quick shots. Superb…

Haha, might try that jacket trick in a pinch. But yeah, my DSLR is a little too big for that… How’s the space in the Osprey Talon for a bigger camera?

Don’t forget about the Gregory Paragon packs. I don’t carry a camera often, but the hipbelt pockets are big enough for a smaller camera or even some extra lenses if you don’t mind splitting stuff up.

Gregory’s packs are solid. But does the Paragon have trekking pole straps? I know that’s a dealbreaker for some. I use an old Deuter that has them, but it’s seen better days, lol.

Yep, it’s got the pole straps. Took it on a 5-day trek in the Rockies, and everything stayed in place. I’ve even rigged up a little DIY camera insert. Not the most pro setup, but it works.

Sounds like a solid setup. I might have to test a few out in person. Appreciate all the recs. Is there any pack that’s bad for hydration systems? My last one always leaked when I tried to use a bladder.

Oh, those leaks are the worst. Deuter’s packs sometimes have awkward bladder sleeves that make it tough to get a good fit, in my experience. I switched to using water bottles after getting soaked on a hike. :joy: :joy:
