Are Hydration Bladders Worth It? 🤔

Hey y’all, quick question…So, I’ve always been that guy who just carries a water bottle in the side pocket of my backpack, but I recently went on a longer hike and my buddy had one of those hydration bladders. It looked kinda convenient, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the switch. For those who’ve used them, are they really that much better? Do they leak? I’m not super sold on the idea of having water sloshing around on my back, but maybe I’m missing out? Any advice appreciated…

“Bladders for the Win :+1:” I always used bottles, but I tried a hydration bladder on a whim, and I’m never going back. It’s just so much easier to sip as you go without stopping. I’ve never had issues with leaking—just make sure you seal it properly. The convenience alone makes it a win for me.

They look a little weird though…

I gave the hydration bladder thing a shot, but it wasn’t for me. I didn’t like having the weight right on my back, and yeah, the sloshing drove me nuts. Plus, it’s a pain to clean compared to a bottle. I’m back to my trusty Nalgene bottle—keeps it simple, and I know I won’t spring a leak.

Man, I used to be skeptical too, but after using a bladder on a multi-day hike, I’m all in. The hands-free drinking is a game changer, especially when you’re tired. No more fumbling for bottles, and it encourages me to drink more often. Just make sure to get a good one—cheap ones can leak.

Bladders? Meh… :man_walking: I tried a hydration bladder once, and I didn’t like how it made my back sweaty. Plus, I always worried about it popping. I stick with bottles now—easier to manage and clean, and I like knowing exactly how much water I have left. To each their own, though… Platypus water bottle for me.

I’ll be real with you—cleaning those things is a pain in the butt. If you’re lazy like me, that might be a dealbreaker. I had one for a while, but after a few gross mold incidents, I switched back to bottles. But yeah, they are super convenient if you’re good about cleaning them.

Why not both? I actually carry a small hydration bladder and a bottle.
